Which authors do you like and why?

I have always enjoyed reading books by lots of different authors although I seem to go through phases. At one point I think I read every John Steinbeck book there was going, then I started to read detective novels by Anne Cleeves and I am currently into reading books some of my old 'O level' books e.g. Lord of the Flies, Macbeth and Catch 22.
