Welcome to Year 5

Welcome back to Spring 1!

We hope you have had a wonderful Christmas, and we can't wait to hear of all the things you've been up to! Thank you all for the delicious treats and presents that you kindly gifted the Year 5 staff, it was very much appreciated. 

We're excited to dive back into new learning this half term. Below you'll fnd an overview of what we'll be focusing on in class.

In English, we'll be studying Kai and the Monkey King by Joe Todd Stanton. We will be aiming to write our own myth set in Ancient China, creating our own characters and settings.

In Maths, we'll begin the spring term learning about multiplication and division, exploring larger numbers and using different methods to improve fluency and problem-solving skills.

In Science, our focus will be on forces. We'll learn about the different types and investigate how forces affect motion.

PE will take place on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure that your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days.

Homework is assigned on Atom Prime every Friday and due in the following Wednesday. Please make sure your child’s account is activated and that they are completing their weekly assignments. You can access Atom Prime here. We’re also continuing to use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRockstars) to support maths fluency. Regular practice at home is encouraged! Regular reading at home is essential for building fluency and enhancing comprehension skills. Please support your child in reading as often as possible.
