Pupil Premium
What is Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium was introduced by the Government in April 2011 to support schools in improving educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. This funding targets students who have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years, referred to as "Ever 6". Currently, primary schools receive £1,345 per eligible pupil per year to provide additional educational support, improve academic progress, and raise achievement levels.
Types of Pupil Premium Funding
-
Service Pupil Premium
Children of parents serving in the armed forces are eligible for this funding, designed to support their social and emotional well-being. Schools receive £310 per pupil per year under this category. -
Pupil Premium Plus
This higher rate of funding, £2,345 per year per child, is allocated for children who are adopted or under a special guardianship. It is intended to help narrow the achievement gap and ensure these pupils' social and emotional well-being.
Highfields Academy’s Commitment
At Highfields Academy, we are committed to achieving the highest standards for all learners. Recognising that pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds may need additional support, we strategically use the Pupil Premium allocation to maximise learning opportunities and help pupils reach their full potential.
We focus on three key objectives:
- Raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and closing the achievement gap with their peers.
- Providing tailored support for Looked After Children (LAC) and previously LAC.
- Supporting the pastoral needs of pupils with parents in the armed forces.
To ensure our strategies are evidence-based and impactful, we follow the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) guide, which provides research-backed recommendations for effective use of Pupil Premium funding.
