Modern Foreign Languages

Modern Foreign Languages at Highfields

At Highfields, our KS2 pupils will continue their Spanish learning journey this year, exploring both the language and the rich cultures of Spanish-speaking countries around the world.

European Day of Languages

To celebrate the European Day of Languages, we will explore the importance of different languages in our daily lives. This year’s theme, "Thank You for the Earth," will encourage discussions on what matters to us and others, inspiring pupils to create beautiful new displays for our school. We will also have fun learning a few words from languages we don’t usually study!

Spanish Pen Pals in Year 6

Year 6 pupils will have the exciting opportunity to connect with new penfriends in Spain. They will practise their writing skills by exchanging introductory letters and sending Christmas cards. We also hope to arrange Zoom calls so that our pupils can meet their penfriends virtually. Last year, this was a fantastic experience where children enjoyed playing interactive language games like Bingo and "Guess the Fruit"—bringing their Spanish skills to life!

Learning Languages at Home

If you’d like to support your child’s language learning at home, the BBC Bitesize website offers excellent resources, including stories, songs, and games. You can explore them here: BBC Bitesize – Spanish.

For further information or additional Spanish resources, feel free to reach out—I’m happy to help!

Curriculum Planning

Below, you’ll find our long-term planning documents for each year group. These outline the topics your child will be studying in their language classes, covering new vocabulary, phonics, and grammar to help them build confidence in speaking and understanding Spanish.
